VALUE EDUCATION
With a view to inculcate a deep sense of values for life in the students, value education classes are conducted in the College. These classes are aimed not only at imparting a value - consciousness in general, but also at enabling the students to respond positively to the individual life - situation and to sole by themselves the problems facing life day by day. Hence the students are directed to participate actively and meaningfully in the value - education classes.
NEWMAN ASSOCIATION
Newman Association is a Union of the catholic intellectuals meant to foster christian thinking and living among them. The Association, under the guidance of a chaplain, shall meet from time to time, discuss topics of religious interest. The members shall pay special attention to the sacramental life, and by doing so set example to catholic students of the college.
C.S.M.
Catholic Students Movement is a religious and cultural forum of the Catholic Students of Newman College. Inspired by the high ideals of Cardinal Newman, members of C.S.M. strive to achieve intellectual and spiritual growth and to become 'new men and women' born in Sprit and Truth. The chief objects of the Movement are: (1) to promote christian faith, inculcating the virtues of love, prudence and justice. (2) to be 'light and leaven' in the College campus and become living witnesses to Christ and (3) to cultivate the spirit of Christian service and fellowship. Students are advised to take active participation in the movement. Rs. 10 each will be collected from the catholic students at the time of admission towards the expenses of the activities.
N.C.C.
There are separate units of N.C.C. for boy and girls in the college. Interested students can seek admission to the unit. Besides imparting a sense of discipline, it helps students to take up career in defence services. Successful completion of the N.C.C. training will be an additional qualification for getting admission for higher studies and for securing jobs.
N.S.S.
National Service Scheme is the largest network in India, linking university/college students throughout the country. Founded in 1969, N.S.S. aims and personality development through community service. This college has three units of N.S.S. consisting of 300 volunteers led by three programme officers. The volunteers are required to put in 240 hours of work in two years. The NSS certificate holders will get 10 marks as grace marks along with the actual degree marks and five marks as weightage for admission to higher courses.
